The Sunkoshi River is a trans-boundary river and is one of major tributaries of the Koshi of Sapta Koshi River situated in Eastern-Nepal. The combined river flows through the Chatra Gorge. The origin of this beautiful river lies in the Tibetan region of China. The meaning of the name of the river stands for ‘River of Gold’. It might have been named because of gold pieces found with gravels in rare cases. The river is known as Matsang Tsangpo in Tibetian language. Sunkoshi covers a total of 44 percentage of the total water of the entire Sapta Koshi River system. Being one of the largest rivers of the country makes itself a popular site for rafting.

Along with rafting the river is also used for Kayaking. This one of the largest river provides rapid and strong currents of grade III to grade IV. For rafting and kayaking, the major belt from Dolalghat [620m] to the Chatra Gorge [115m] is preferred. The distance between the two points is 272 kms.


Day 01: Arrive in Kathmandu Airport [1,338m/4,389ft] and transfer to hotel to stay overnight

Day 01: Departure from Kathmandu. Hotel or resort overnight

Day 02: Encounter rapid mid-grander. Hotel or resort overnight

Day 03: Encounter rapid punches and high anxieties

Day 04: Encounter with rapid Jaws, Big-hole, and Rhino Rock. Hotel overnight in Rashuwaghat [501m/1,644ft]

Day 05: Drive from Rasuwaghat to Chamereghat and further to Darsandhungat; Camping point will be at Ranitar

Day 06: Drive from Ranitar to Chatara [153m/502ft] and further to Kathmandu by bus takes about 11 hours

Day 07: This is the last day of our Sunkoshi river rafting. In the same morning, we arrive in Kathmandu. The day will be free day to you for souvenir
